It took my husband and father in-law about 45 minutes to put this together (not including the stickers - takes a female touch). I like how this is low to the ground, has a bar on each side so they do not easily fall out, and wide for stability.The steering wheel is also easy for him to use. Only two cons = my son is a short 3 year old and the pedal is hard for him to reach(I put a foam pad behind him to help push him forward)and the shifter lays right under his leg used to push the gas pedal(shifter is easily bumped). He does not seem to mind these cons it is just the parents and he can grow into it The traction is awesome and can go over or through MOST anything(wet long grass on a hill included)! It does really well with two kids in it and there is plenty of room.
Prior to first use, the battery must be charged for 18-24 hours! I had a Jeep model Power Wheel ride-on when my children were younger and smaller. They are now 12 and almost 11. Yes, of course they are too big and too old for this toy, however any child will squish themselves into these ride-ons for as long as they possibly can! My kids were thrilled to learn that I was able to get this through The Amazon Vine Program. They rode their old Jeep so much that I had to order new wheels! There are so many things we LOVE about this Dune Buggy ride-on! For starters it is definietly a bit larger than the typical two-seat Power Wheel ride-on. The Dune Buggy has extra large (taller) rear wheels, and the width of it is also wider than typical so it fits my kids much easier than a traditional size model. The best part is the lack of "dashboard" to this model so bigger kids can get in and out of the Buggy more easily. Very young kids may find the lack of dashboard more cumbersome to navigate getting in and out of the car for lack of "hand holding area" to steady themselves. The colors are so zippy! Lime green, charcoal, black, and shiny finish plastic "chrome" hub caps and front bumper, and real metal chrome side bars. Perhaps the real metal chrome sidebars could become hot to touch in hot and sunny weather, and also possibly cause injury if a child fell onto the bar or got their foot/hand/arm stuck between the bar and lower edge of the car. In my opinion, children should never be allowed to play in this ride-on without direct adult supervision. It took me at least 45 minutes to assemble the Buggy by myself and another 15 minutes to carefully apply all of the stickers. One negative thing is that the wires to the battery are not sufficiently long to set the battery on the ground flatly in order to unplug the battery so that it can be charged. Furthermore, the battery is slid into the rear of the Buggy into a compartment that necessitates the battery connection to go in "head first". Therefore, to charge the battery one must remove the battery from the Buggy. That's a lot of manipulating of the battery and (too short) wires/plug which remain inside the rear battery compartment of the Buggy. Our old Jeep model had the battery under the front hood and one could simple unplug the battery from the car and plug in the charging adaptor while leaving the battery in the car. If one wanted to, the battery could be easily removed from the Jeep model by simply picking it straight up out of the front hood. To remove the battery from the Buggy for charging, I typically have to get on my kness and bend over to gently and carefully slide the battery out of the "just fitting" battery compartment then juggle the battery while trying to firmly remove the plug and NOT put too much strain on the very short battery plug wires inside the Buggy battery compartment. It just seems like a really inconvenient process v.s. the battery at the top and front like in our Jeep. I'm quite concerned about the wires getting tugged on and manipulated so much causing an increased risk of being shorted out. One can buy a new battery, but I'm not sure how many can rewire a ride-on! As far as fun factor, these Power Wheels are through the roof! With constant use, you can expect to get an hour of ride time per charge. As I said, we had one before that got tons of use and when I sold it at a garage sale the original battery was still functioning almost 2 years after purchase. I am not exagerating that within mere minutes of my kids driving this Buggy on the sidewalks of our street the kids came running out like ants! 10 kids (age 6-12) all took turns nonstop until the battery died an hour later. Last night a 23 month old child rode as a passenger because he was way too short to reach the steering wheel and gas peddle. The prime age for these ride-ons are (a large) 3-4 yr old to about 6-7 (not so large). My 12 yr old is about 5'2", 110lbs and has a man's size 10 1/2 foot and is still having a blast riding! This Buggy claims to have supperior traction. It does have a center line of deep tread which our old Jeep tires did not have. The tires are obviously new as of this writting and do grip quite well. I imaging that they probably will be more grippy for longer due to both the deep depth of tread, and the center tread. The Buggy is a huge hit with my kids and the neighborhood ones! I feel that despite the price my kids used this toy so much for so long and had so much fun that it was a worthwhile investment.
